With our group trip to Chuuk Lagoon only days away, we've decided to explore all of the tips and tricks to vacationing on a liveaboard with you. If you have never experienced liveaboard diving before pay close attention, you may need these tips when packing. And, even if you are a seasoned liveaboard diver, you may pick up a couple new tricks to making your trip even more enjoyable.
Get Ready To DIVE!!
Liveaboard vacations are all about diving, diving, and more diving. So get ready to get wet! Most liveaboards will give you the option of diving at your leisure on your own, or diving with one of the experienced local dive guides that are on the boat with you.
Unless you've been diving at this location before, we strongly recommend utilizing the dive guide! They will know where all the cool stuff is found!
Bring Your DAN Insurance!
We don't care how awesome a diver you are, accidents happen and you never know when. The last thing you want is to be stuck out in the middle of the ocean, living on a boat, and NOT have dive accident insurance if you get bent or injured diving.
Bring A Sweatshirt and/or Rain Jacket
Yes, you may be going to a tropical location where it's nice and toasty....during the day. However, you will be living on the water, therefore, without all of that land to suck up the heat during the day, it could cool off at night. Also, many boats tend to change locations later in the evening so that ocean wind could get a bit chilly.
Pack SMALL!!
Liveaboard rooms can be tiny. Luckily you won't be spending much time in them anyway. However, they can tend to get cluttered quickly. TIP #1: Try out vacuum type ziplock bags to pack your clothes in. You won't need much: a couple swim suits, shirts or sun dresses and PJ's, but compacting them in a large baggie will allow you to pack it all up into smaller suitcase. TIP #2: Bring some kind of small, collapsible storage bin to keep all of your odds-and-ends in one spot in your room.
Bring A Solar Charger
Your stateroom (bedroom in boat lingo) will have a limited number of electrical outlets. And chances are, you'll be sharing a room with someone, so you'll have to share it. We highly recommend investing in a small solar charger. This way you can charge your electronic devices wherever and whenever you want.
Be An Early Riser
Our last tip to getting the most out of your liveaboard experience is to be an early riser.
The early bird gets the worm.
This is definitely true for liveaboard divers. What could be better than diving just as the sun is rising and the reef is just stirring to life? On top of that, you'll have the reef all to yourself before any of the day boats (or even your fellow liveaboard dive buddies) descend on it.
Using some or all of our Liveaboard Diving Tips and Tricks will make your diving adventure better than you could have imagined! And if you're not booked already on one of our liveaboard diving adventures ... what are you waiting for??
